I am a non-drinker of alcohol like many.
As the winter season approaches it can be nice to have the occasional drink of something warming and so in our household we make this. It suits young and older alike.
Ingredients:
1 litre of apple juice or red grape juice
Cinnamon stick
1 unwaxed lemon - peel from about half OR 1 unwaxed orange - peel from about half
5 cloves
1 star anise
(Optional 1/2 spoon honey per serving)
Method:
Place all ingredients in a big cooking pot.
Heat up to boiling and then turn down and simmer for about 7 minutes.
Serve with a fresh slice of orange or lemon from the remaining half.
Add honey if you want it to be a little sweeter. The juice itself is sweet and the cinnamon also acts as a sweetener so the honey is definitely optional.
