Thermal Auricular Therapy (Ear Candling)
Incorporating Facial Massage
What is it?
A relaxing therapy that uses hollow candles, made from beeswax and herbs, that are placed in the ears and slowly heat up. After the candling a face massage is given to help relieve tension. It is believed that the warmth and use of the candle, along with the massage acts on the body’s homeostatic mechanisms and helps to stimulate the ear area to release tension in the muscles and tissue.
After an initial consultation (including your medical history) you will be asked to lie down on your side on a massage couch. The special candle is then placed gently into the outermost part of the ear canal, where it is lit. I will hold it in a vertical position, so keeping the candle steady and preventing any ash from falling on to you. You will hear a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns down and experience a warm, comfortable sensation in your ear. The candle is then taken away while you lie there for a few moments before turning over to treat the other ear. You will also receive an essential facial massage to the area around the ear, jaw and sinus areas and includes pressure points called marmas.
What to wear?
Please wear comfy clothing for lying down on a couch with.
Is it true that the wax is pulled out of your ear?
No. The wax is from the candle - it’s not a vacuum suction effect at all. I took A level physics and when I did my ear candling training, despite being told this by the tutor, knew it was not true. If you let the candles burn without being in an ear they have wax too (because they are made from wax). Anyone telling you otherwise is either ignorant or erm ignorant. Also how the wax looks has no bearing on what is going on in your ear. If you do have an ear problem your first port of call needs to be your G.P.
So if no wax is coming out of the ear why do you offer this?
It’s very, very relaxing. Simple as that. It feels nice and smells nice plus you get a gentle massage around the area which helps with tension release.
Please note there are certain medical conditions which may mean you would need to check with your G.P. before having treatment. Treatment is not advised if you have grommets, cochlear implants, a perforated ear drum, lumps, cysts or a current infection or inflammation in or of the ear or head region (please visit your G.P. instead).
Please call me on 07423 019459 to discuss and book. My treatment menu is here.
