Pre Menstrual Syndrome is an area that I have struggled with myself, hence my interest.  I don't want anyone to have to suffer when they don't need to.  I started with PMS at high school and by my early twenties my symptoms were so bad that my doctor put me on hormone pills to help 'regulate' them.  My periods settled but I didn't feel right suppressing what I felt was a normal part of being female and there were other side effects.   In my twenties I developed a breast lump (benign thankfully) and because of that it was no longer an option to take synthetic hormones to deal with my hormonal imbalance.  I went back to my life being severely compromised by PMS and it wasn't just pre but all the way through for a week to ten days.  Once a month I became an emotional wreck and the pain was excruciating.  I found it hard to work or study and some days I could not get up.   Also everyone used to take delight in joking about my 'time of the month' because of all the symptoms I suffered.  

When I was pregnant I was so relieved that I no longer had periods; at last I felt normal.  I also felt normal after the birth of my daughter for about 9 months and then I tipped back again and PMS came back with a vengeance.  That's when I decided enough was enough.  I had no help from Western medicine so I started looking into complementary therapies.  I found that massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, herbalism, nutritional and lifestyle changes all helped and I ended up training in various modalities and went on to qualify professionally so that I could not only help myself but others too.  

If, like I did, you dread your periods and during them you often have to lie in bed, with cramps and back and leg pain, unable to get up at times, struggling with migraine/headaches, having heavy bleeds and weeping inconsolably then you may be wondering if a change can be made. You know it is not right to suffer in this way. You may be feeling really alone and ostracised; at times your symptoms are treated without consideration or empathy for you as a whole person and hurtful comments may be made about your mood swings of rage or overwhelming despair and/or clumsiness.  

Am I PMS free?  Yes and no...if I do what's right for my own body and choose the best of nutrition and lifestyle management then it's a definite YES.  And this is what I can support you with -  I'm not offering a cure per se as there's no one-shot silver bullet but health coaching will support you to manage the symptoms of PMS by getting you to optimise on the choices you make and small changes make a huge difference.  

 It's important that you visit your doctor first (please see my disclaimer) as any symptoms need to be ruled out against medical issues.  However, if you have done that and all they can say is "Get on with it...learn to live with it" then that's where health coaching can help to support you to make the choices that are best for your own wellbeing.
